Jason Eli
Biography

The Early Years

Born and raised in London, Jason’s first musical influences came from watching his older cousins play in their own funk/soul band. He learnt to play piano from the age of 10, and by 16 he’d developed a love of Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop and Pop music. He soaked in the massive influence of London’s club culture during the 80s and 90’s and that (along with his relentless desire to go out and party) led him into DJ’ing and making music. By the age of 21 he was playing funky music in grimy pubs all over the capital city.

The DJ

After sending his DJ mix to Ministry of Sound, Jason was given a saturday residency at the clubs “Ruling” night, playing cutting edge house music in the main room and mixing up the styles in the VIP room, maintaining his weekly spot there for four years. Jason’s rocked crowds and toured with with the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Eric Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Masters at Work, Frankie Knuckles, Carl Craig, Norman Jay and many more influential DJ’s. During those years, he was instrumental in bringing high quality house music out from the underground and to a wider audience. As his DJ’ing developed through touring with maverick DJ Harvey and disco legend Kenny Carpenter , Jason widened his sets to include more latin flavours, Disco, and conscious Hip-Hop.  Another influential club night he regularly DJ’d at was “Swaraj”, based in London’s Blue note club, which was one of the first events in the world to blend Indian music with the exploding UK dance culture of the time. Nowadays, his music repertoire is wider than just House music, and he incorporates, Breaks, Funk, Latin, Disco and future soul beats in his sets, all while having a House music attitude of positivity and up tempo danceability.

The Producer and Remixer

Always on a journey for new sounds as well as places, Jason formed Albino Productions in with top UK producer Amar Saeed, with a mission to fuse eastern beats with electronica. They blended the music of India and Pakistan with Hip-Hop and Breaks long before it was fashionable to do so.

Artists he’s remixed include Whitney Houston, Mos Def and many others.
